Get involved

Telford 50 has been, more than anything, a celebration of people, for people.

We wanted to give the opportunity to as many people as possible from across the borough to get involved in the celebrations.

They could get involved as an individualbusiness or community and there were a number of resources available to help them promote the anniversary.

For Telford's 50th anniversary, more than 130 people volunteered to be a GEM (Golden Event Maker) and help make the spectacular 50th anniversary programme happen.

GEMs have been key to Telford 50 celebrations success, by supporting all the exciting events taking place. Without their help, the events would not have taken place.

On Telford's 50th birthday (29 November 2018) a special "Thank you" event for GEMs took place at Telford International Centre, with each GEM receiving a recognition certificate from the Mayor.

Lots of GEMs are now eager to get involved in more volunteering opportunities this year.

Becoming a volunteer can be personally rewarding and help people give something back to their community, as well as learn new skills and make new friends.

More than 140 different volunteering opportunities that support the Council, as well as other organisations within the borough are currently available.
